When I Say I Am A Christian

When I say, "I am a Christian"

I'm not shouting, "I've been saved!"

I'm whispering, "I get lost!

That's why I chose this way".

When I say, "I am a Christian"

I don't speak with human pride

I'm confessing that I stumble--

Needing God to be my guide.

When I say, "I am a Christian"

I'm not trying to be strong

I'm professing that I'm weak

And pray for strength to carry on.

When I say, "I am a Christian"

I'm not bragging of success

I'm admitting that I've failed

That I've done things I regret.

When I say, "I am a Christian"

I don't think I know it all

I submit to my confusion

Asking humbly to be taught.

When I say, "I am a Christian"

I'm not claiming to be perfect

My flaws are all too visible

But God believes I'm worth it.

When I say, "I am a Christian"

I still feel the sting of pain

I have my share of heartache,

Which is why I seek God's name.

When I say, "I am a Christian"

I do not wish to judge

I have no authority...

I only know I'm loved.

Math Olympics is a relationship building and math tutoring program between the First Presbyterian Church and the students of Vallejo Middle School.  Our Pastor, Dr. Deck, through his efforts volunteering with the kids at the middle school, found that many needed help with basic math skills before they would be successful with algebra.  It HAPPENS every Wednesday afternoon (only when the middle school has a "short-day" school day) at 1 p.m. in the social halls of the church (where Breakfast Club meets in the morning).  Volunteers need to be there by 12:30 p.m. PLEASE!  FirstPres is located at 1350 Amador, at Nebraska, in Vallejo-across from Vallejo Middle School and kitty-corner to Vallejo High School.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

1.)  Volunteer!  You don't need to know anything about math to help.  Just call the church office at 644-4414 and Dr. Deck will find a spot for your particular skills.

2.)  Donate money!  Prizes and supplies cost money, this is as big a need as volunteers.

3.)  Tell others about the program!  The more, the merrier.
