The Spiritual Journey class invites you join us. This class is like no other you have ever attended. You don’t need to prepare to come to a class, but the more you come to class, the more you get out of it. Pastor Deck leads the class, and we do a variety of things. Mostly we explore what the Gospels have to say about life in the 21st Century. We do this by “internalizing” the meaning of the Gospel. Instead of reading the Bible as about “long ago and far away, then and there,” we read the Bible as it speaks to what happens “inside” each and every one of us every day. So come and join in this never ending exploration of the spiritual journey we all are on whether we know it or not!
What do we do in class?
First, we intentionally S-L-O-W D-O-W-N. We begin by first singing a Taizé song, which intentionally takes us out of the normal hectic pace of life. Then we write down at least 5 things for which we are grateful while we listen to quiet music.
The bulk of our time we practice Lectio Divina — This is an ancient way of reading the Bible in which the Bible “reads” you. We look back at the Scripture Pastor Deck preached on the previous Sunday. Then we look ahead to the Scripture for the coming Sunday. Questions are welcome, and generally the time flies by.
Centering / Contemplative Prayer — This is a type of prayer that is more about “listening” than talking. We practice it together for 20 minutes at the end of class.
Sharing What’s on Our Hearts — We close by sharing our lives with each other, which “feeds” us. Of course, no one is “forced” to share.
While we are all “sheltering in place” the Spiritual Journey class invites you join us LIVE on your computer every Tuesday using a computer app called Zoom.
One of the “silver lining” of this pandemic is how technology is now being used to bring us together in ways we never considered before. The computer application ZOOM has allowed us to meet for Spiritual Journey Class every Tuesday, even though we are all at home sitting in front of our computers. In the past few weeks attendance at Spiritual Journey class has sky-rocketed! We have had people from Vacaville, Richmond, Walnut Creek, Napa, Windsor, Lancaster, Vallejo & Benicia join our class.
So consider this your personal invitation to join our class from the comfort of your home using Zoom!
We have changed the time of the class to 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesdays.
Try and join us before 12:30 p.m. on Zoom so we can start the class on time.
